What Colours Go With Mauve Trousers? Four Pairings to Try
Mauve can look rosy beside a blue shirt and almost lilac beside pale yellow. That shift is what makes it such a good trouser colour. Our four favourites to wear with Cavenor’s Dusky Rose trousers are crisp white, powder blue, butter yellow and chocolate brown.
Crisp white for the office
Tuck a white poplin shirt into Cavenor’s high-waisted linen-blend trousers, then ease a little fabric out at the sides. You’ll have room to move and still see the pintuck that runs down the front of each wide leg. For a meeting, we’d follow that line all the way to a pointed white stiletto. The glimpse of white beneath the hem picks up the shirt.
Powder blue for the weekend
For Saturday coffee, borrow the faded blue of a favourite pair of jeans and wear it up top. A powder-blue chambray shirt brings out the pink in mauve. Leave the collar open and tuck in just the front. Brown loafers and a narrow tan belt give the two pale colours a darker edge.
Butter yellow for a long lunch
Look for a yellow about as soft as the mauve. For lunch in Kolkata, we’d wear Cavenor’s butter-yellow cotton-linen wrap shirt. Tie it at the trouser waist and let the asymmetric hem fall over one hip. Add cream sandals and gold hoops. If you’d like a smaller touch of yellow, go back to the white shirt and knot a butter-yellow silk scarf at the collar.
Chocolate brown for dinner
Deep brown makes dusty rose look richer, particularly when the fabrics catch the light differently. For dinner, tuck a chocolate satin camisole loosely into the matte linen-blend trousers. Bronze sandals pick up the sheen of the top. If you prefer flats, try dark brown slingbacks and wear the bronze as a cuff instead.
